2211 Curtiss St. in Downers Grove, IL.

A family recently asked us to restore their prized Steinway & Sons model O from 1911.

We will share with them and our friends the process their heirloom has gone through.

To see another perspective on what rebuilding can involve, check out here for the other Steinway & Sons O from just a bit earlier in the 20th century. It had a much harder life which can be clearly seen in its story.

Alfonso, Tony, and Iris have stripped and sanded your frame. Iris is holding your new color. The truth is, I have never known a crew which had as much fun with their work as these three. It has been a pleasure and honor to work with them.

Tony is staining your frame. The inside is done already.

Alfonso is wiping off the stain. Staining a pieces this large usullay envolves everbody. You can't let the stain stay on too long and you need to get it wiped off while it is still wet. We kid Alfonso about: "Wipe on, wipe off" Oh, come on, you have to know where that came from!

The frame is stained.
...
The center leg is stripped, the right leg is sanded, and the left leg is stained. The legs are made of a much lighter wood, maple I believe in this case, and need conciderable amount of effort to get to match the rest of the piano.

Here is some documentation of the condition of your harp.
This is a little odd, but the paint is worn away behind the tuning pins.

Some type of stain.

Another stain and generally dirty.
