Gulbransen
Gulbransen Pianos
Gulbransen Piano Company first began making pianos in Chicago, IL in 1906. They claim to have become the largest producer of pianos in Chicago by 1917. This would have been quite a feat because other large companies such as Cable and Kimball were also very prominent in the Midwest at the time and were supplying quite a competition for them. In the 1920’s, Gulbransen invented a new kind of player piano mechanism which would fit into standard sized pianos. This had not yet been done and was one invention that gave Gulbransen a big advantage over their competition. The innovation did not stop there. Gulbransen later branched into organ making and introduced the first ever transistor organ to the world in 1962. They continued through the 1980s to be in the forefront of technological advances in pianos and organs.
